Katherine Willett “Katie” was born and raised in China Grove, North Carolina and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2006.  Katie attended law school at Mercer University School of Law where she was an active member of the Moot Court Board, serving as an Executive Officer. Katie competed in the Vale National Corporate Law Moot Court Competition where she was a finalist and was later selected to represent Mercer Law at the Houston National Moot Court Championship.  For this work, Katie was selected as a member of the Order of the Barristers. Also while in law school, Katie chaired the Mercer Law Community Service Committee all three years of her attendance. Katie received the Dean’s Community Service Award upon graduation.

After graduation, Katie worked as a trust and estates attorney in Augusta, Georgia before becoming a law clerk for the Honorable Eugene M. Benton outside of Athens, Georgia. When her clerkship ended, Katie joined the law firm of Merbaum & Becker in Atlanta, where she practiced business and construction litigation, taking numerous cases to trial.

While in Georgia, Katie was actively involved with the State Bar, graduating from the 2013 YLD Leadership Academy and serving on the YLD’s Board of Directors.  Katie also started a statewide pro bono project called the First Responders Wills Clinic. The Wills Clinic pairs attorney volunteers with first responders and their spouses for the preparation and execution of essential estate planning documents.  Katie received an Award of Achievement for Outstanding Service to the Public for the Wills Clinic.

After a decade in Georgia, Katie decided to head back to her roots in North Carolina. Wallace & Graham welcomed Katie to the firm in 2018, where her mother, Frieda Willett, worked as a paralegal for over thirty years before her retirement.  Katie has the pleasure of representing the firms’ many clients along with the assistance of her paralegal, Amanda Norton.

Katie is a member of the North Carolina State Bar, State Bar of Georgia Bar, State Bar of South Carolina, North Carolina Bar Association, NC Advocates for Justice, Rowan County Bar Association, Be the Match Organization, and the Alzheimer’s Association. Outside of work, Katie enjoys time spent with family, especially her daughter Maven and her nephew Maddux.
