IN THE NEWS US Labor Department's OSHA publishes proposed rule on beryllium exposure standards for the construction and shipyard sectors. In a news release issued earlier this month, the US Labor Department announced a proposed rule related to beryllium standards ONLY for the construction and shipyard sectors. According to the press release, the proposed rule would modify the agency's recent beryllium standards in those industries. As a result of the proposal, representatives from both the construction and shipping industry, along with members of Congress, raised concerns that they had not had a meaningful opportunity to comment on the application of the rule to their industries when the rule was developed in 2015-16.
