If you own a VW Diesel vehicle, you may be entitled to a $500 gift card from the company. VW is offering the $500 card as part of its response to the pollution scandal involving many VW vehicles.
For background, in September 2015, the EPA announced that many VW Diesel vehicles were not meeting the pollution standards. According to investigators, since at least 2009, VW vehicles containing 2.0 liter diesel engines have failed to comply with environmental laws.
The affected vehicles include the following models:
- 2009 to 2015 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Clean Diesel;
- 2009 to 2015 Volkswagen Beetle TDI Clean Diesel;
- 2009 to 2015 Volkswagen Golf TDI Clean Diesel;
- 2012 to 2015 Volkswagen Passat TDI Clean Diesel; and,
- 2009 to 2015 Audi A3 TDI Clean Diesel.
VW is now offering free $500 gift cards to VW customers who own these vehicles. We have confirmed that accepting the card does not mean the customer loses their right to sue or receive other benefits. So, we are encouraging W&G clients who have affected vehicles to apply for the gift cards.
At the VW website, the company explains that “we’re providing affected 2.0L TDI® owners with a $500 Volkswagen Prepaid Visa® Loyalty Card, a $500 Volkswagen Dealership Card, and no-charge 24-hour Roadside Assistance for three years.” Further, affected customers eligible for the Goodwill Package are “not required to waive their rights or release their claims” against VW in order to receive the package.

Wallace and Graham has sued on behalf of affected VW owners in North Carolina Federal Court. We will continue to advise clients of the developments.
